Mechanism of action

The mechanism of action of hypoglycemic is as follows:

1. Increase the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin and increase insulin-mediated glucose utilization.

2. Increase the utilization of glucose by non-insulin-dependent tissues, such as the brain, blood cells, renal medulla, intestines, skin, etc.

3. Inhibit hepatic gluconeogenesis and reduce hepatic glucose output.

4. Inhibit the uptake of glucose by intestinal wall cells.

5. Inhibit the biosynthesis and storage of cholesterol and reduce the levels of blood triglycerides and total cholesterol.

In clinic, Metformin Hydrochloride Powder is mainly used to treat patients with type 2 diabetes who are not satisfied with diet control alone, especially those who are obese and have hyperinsulinemia. This drug not only has the effect of lowering blood sugar, but also may reduce weight and hyperinsulinemia. It can be effective for some patients who have poor efficacy with sulfonylureas. For example, when used in combination with sulfonylureas, intestinal glycosidase inhibitors or thiazolidinediones hypoglycemic drugs, the effect is better than that of using them alone. It can also be used for patients treated with insulin to reduce the amount of insulin.

Cautions

Biguanide oral hypoglycemic drugs can increase the utilization of glucose by peripheral tissues and inhibit the absorption of glucose by the intestines, inhibit hepatic gluconeogenesis and hepatic glucose output, and are mainly suitable for patients with type 2 diabetes who are obese and have dyslipidemia. They have almost no hypoglycemic effect on normal people, but blood sugar levels of diabetics drop significantly 2 to 3 hours after taking the drug.

Commonly used biguanide oral hypoglycemic drugs include phenformin and metformin hydrochloride. Since biguanides enhance anaerobic glycolysis of sugar and inhibit hepatic glycogen production, a small number of patients may experience ketosis or lactic acidemia, so they should be particularly vigilant. However, metformin has a weak effect, and its adverse reactions are only 1/50 of those of other biguanides. It is cleared quickly and does not accumulate in the liver, so it rarely induces lactic acidosis, and sometimes blood lactate increases slightly. Patients with heart, liver, and kidney diseases are prone to this, so diabetic patients with such complications should not use it. This product can reduce the absorption of vitamin B12, but rarely causes anemia.
